Bri and Brad were married at The Retreat at Solterra in Lakewood. Bri had studied in Italy and fallen in love with the architecture and culture. The Retreat was as close to Italy as you can get in Colorado! It was a beautiful spot for a truly stunning wedding.

We've had some pretty happy brides in the past, but we think Bri wins the award for the most excited bride. She grinned through the entire ceremony and could barely contain her excitement. It was awesome!

Anjanette and Justin

Anjanette and Justin were married at the Pines at Genesee on March 20. This wedding was especially fun for us because they were both clients and family friends. Jordan and Anjanette grew up together, so it was an honor for us to be a part of making their wedding dreams come true.

Anjanette's mom Connie is a very talented florist we use frequently for our weddings and events. Because she was playing the dual role of vendor and Mother of the Bride, she elected to create the centerpieces ahead of time using silk flowers. The bouquets and most personal flowers were fresh. Everything was just gorgeous! Anjanette's bouquet was one of the most beautiful we have seen.

As much fun as it is to create events for our clients, there is something special about pulling off a sweet event for our own family. This tea party was for Jordan's daughter's first birthday. This year has gone by so quickly!

We've done photobooths many times before for other events, but this was the first time we've done it for our own event. It was hilarious!

One of our favorite florists, Connie Wheat with Creative Creations (see her work here, here and here), is running a mid-winter clearance sale.

Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone has announced that Honeysuckle 18-2120 is the color for 2011.

According to the organization, "Honeysuckle emboldens us to face everyday troubles with verve and vigor. A dynamic reddish pink, Honeysuckle is encouraging and uplifting. It elevates our psyche beyond escape, instilling the confidence, courage and spirit to meet the exhaustive challenges that have become part of everyday life."

The marketing copy is a bit over-the-top, but the color is lovely (and you know we love all sorts of pinks). It will be interesting to see how this color is used for wedding and event palettes this year.

We are currently in the process of rebuilding the Cachet Weddings and Events website. The new design will be mobile-phone friendly as it will not use Flash. Our blog will be integrated with the site.

We have some great images to show you from recent events, including Lauren and Ben's beautiful Christmas wedding in Golden. When the new site and blog are up and running, we will post those there.

Jordan is having a wonderful time planning a girly tea party for her daughter's first birthday in February. She'll be sure to post pictures after the party!

We recently planned a baby "sprinkle" to honor Kimberly and help her celebrate the upcoming arrival of her daughter. Because this was her second baby, she asked for a small, intimate gathering with her closest family and friends.

The event was held at Highlands Garden Cafe in north Denver. The guests enjoyed a wonderful brunch followed by cupcakes from Happy Cakes Bakeshop.

Congratulations Kim! We can't wait to meet baby Emma.

Erin and Paul

Erin and Paul were married on Labor Day weekend at Keystone Ranch in Keystone, Colorado. Their friends and family came from around the country to witness their vows, and everyone had a wonderful time at this wedding. No one wanted to leave at the end!

Ceremony and cocktail hour music was provided by Canned Haggis, a fun Celtic band as a nod to Erin's heritage. Flowers were provided by Petal and Bean, Reception music came from Eric with A Greatime DJ.

Branton with Booth 66 provided a photobooth that kept the guests entertained all evening.

Carol's Retirement Party

When the guest of honor retired recently, she requested a fun, informal gathering for her office, rather than a traditional wine and cheese reception or dinner.

Guests enjoyed a fun afternoon including a cook-out with salmon (her favorite dish) and a strawberry shortcake bar, followed by an old-school field day competition. Events included a 100-yard dash, a potato sack race, an egg and spoon race, a water balloon toss and a tug-of-war match.

Jaclyn and Chris came to us as a referral from a past bride. We love getting personal recommendations! Ironically, Jordan went to high school with one of the bridesmaids. What a small world!

This lovely couple were married on a beautiful, warm day at the St. Julien hotel in Boulder. Ceremony music was provided by the Lyric Ensemble. Personal flowers and ceremony decor were provided by Sweet Pea Flowers. The reception room was draped and lit by Pink Monkey Solutions. The cake and groom's cake came from Teacup. Reception flowers were designed and produced by a friend of the bride's family. Dana Hogan photographed the event, and Favio with A Music Plus served as the DJ.

Sarah and Derek wanted their wedding to have a very elegant, old Hollywood feel. We think they succeeded!

Ashleigh and Parshad were married on June 12 at Columbine Country Club. We had been working with them for more that two years to plan their wedding, so it was very exciting to see it come together.

The weather was very cold and rainy, so the outside ceremony was moved inside. We were so glad that Columbine has a perfect inside option! Ashleigh and Parshad were great sports about it, and even went outside in the rain for photos. It was so misty and beautiful on the golf course that I'm sure they got some amazing photos.

We were honored to work with Krista Cooley again (twice in a week!), on this wedding. She's posted some previews on her blog and has promised to send us some more images, which we will post when we receive them.

Diane and Tony

Diane and Tony were married in the Rose Garden at Hudson Gardens on June 10. They had their reception in the Garden Canopy.

This wedding was a family affair. Diane and her family made all of the bouquets, bouts and centerpieces. Her father put together a cute photobooth backdrop, inspired by a photobooth idea that has been making the rounds on the Internet. Photographer Krista Cooley provided a dedicated shooter for these photos. We can't wait to see how they turned out!

Caterers Biscuits and Berries provided a delicious Italian buffet, complete with a pasta action station. Instead of a cake, Diane and Tony opted to serve warm brownies and ice cream.

The threatening weather held off until just after the guests were seated for dinner in the tent. Then it poured and hailed! But just as soon as the rain started, it stopped and the sun came out. All the guests cheered when the DJ, Craig Sammon, played "I Can See Clearly Now."

We're still here! The late fall and winter are odd times for those of us in the planning industry. We are light on events, but incredibly busy with all of the planning details for our spring, summer and fall weddings and occassions.

Our next big adventure will be Shaina and Richard's winter wonderland wedding in Vail on February 20. We'll be sure to post pictures after the weekend is over!

We spent last weekend in Vail with client Shaina and her mother Sherry. Shaina and Sherry are from California, so they flew in to do some serious planning. What a whirlwind it was! We had 15 appointments in four days, and managed to get most of the vendors selected!

We met with five photographers, two florists, two bakeries, two caterers, a DJ and an officiant. We also visited the venue and toured lodging options.

Marriage License Fee Increase

Just a friendly reminder to Colorado couples, the marriage license fee is increasing from $10 to $30 on July 1. Per Senate Bill 09-068, the $20.00 increase will help fund the Colorado Domestic Abuse Program.

Before applying for your license, be sure to check with the Clerk and Recorder in your county to verify the requirements.

Special E: Saving the planet one event at a time

There are many companies popping up to help people throw “green events.”

Special E is a new service that rescues leftovers from meetings, conferences, trade shows, banquets, parties, weddings, and special events.

At the end of your event, Special E will send a “rescue squad” to pick up unused items. Among other services, the company will deliver leftover food to local foodbanks and shelters, compost buffet scraps, recycle cans and bottles from your bar and deliver floral arrangements to hospitals and nursing homes.

The company charges a nominal fee to cover their costs. The fee is based on the type, size, timing, and location of the event and the type of leftover items they are rescuing.

The service is available in 30 markets, including Denver.

From Colorado Meetings & Events: "The 210-room Westin Riverfront Resort & Spa, part of a $500 million condo hotel development in Avon, has opened.

The upscale resort is seeking certification in Leadership in Engineering and Environmental Design (LEED) from the U.S. Green Building Council. Programs include guest recycling stations on each floor, preferred parking for hybrid vehicles, an on-site organic garden and a donation of a five-acre park to the Town of Avon.

The hotel has 4,000 square feet of meeting and event space, plus a 23,000-square-foot spa and an on-site restaurant."

Holly and Dan were married on Saturday at the beautiful Keystone Ranch in Keystone, Colorado.

We were worried about the weather. On Friday morning, there was so much snow that a chain law was in effect on Loveland Pass. By the rehearsal on Friday afternoon, the snow had melted, but it had left some nasty puddles.

Luckily, Saturday dawned bright and sunny, a perfect day for a wedding that we had been planning for more than a year.

Everything was perfect, the bride was radiant, and the guests had a great time. Congrats to Holly & Dan! Enjoy St. Lucia!

Holly and Dan's Escort Cards

Holly and Dan are getting married on Saturday!

We spent a few evenings this week creating their escort cards, table name cards and personalized reserved signs for the ceremony chairs. We used the same twig and mountain motif that we used on their invitation suite.

First we designed the cards in Quark and printed them on ivory linen cardstock.
Next we ran them through the Xyron machine to cover the backs with glue. Then we cut the cards apart.
We cut chocolate brown cardstock down to size.
We then ran each card through the machine to score it.
Then used a bone folder to flatten the fold.
After that, it was as simple as peeling and sticking!

No photos of the table name cards, unfortunately. Each table is named after one of Holly and Dan's favorite ski runs.

We received this nice note from Dan this week: "I just want to thank you guys so much for all your help and support. We definitely could not have maintained our sanity without you guys. You definitely have us for a recommendation and look forward to the big day."

After more than a year of planning, we are looking forward to seeing this event come together!

We had the honor of coordinating Karen and Greg's wedding at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. The wedding ceremony was originally scheduled for the outside gazebo, but a sudden rainstorm caused us to move the ceremony to the porch of the Manor House. The rain actually made a nice backdrop to the sweet ceremony.

During cocktail hour, Greg's mom got stuck in the Stanley's 1909 elevator! After 1/2 hour and a visit by Estes Park's finest, she was free. Luckily the bride took it all in stride!

Alissa and Jason

WeddingFest '08 continued Saturday with the wedding of Alissa and Jason at Skyline Park and the Westin Tabor Center.

Alissa and her stepmother came to us in the spring. They had completed about 1/3 of the wedding planning but had realized that they needed to get some professional help to find vendors, finish the planning and deal with some issues that had come up.

When all was said and done, this wedding had 21 vendors to manage, a record number for us! This list included two florists, A/V and lighting, a carriage, a violin and guitar duo, a bagpiper, pianist, DJ, hair and makeup artists, linen supplier, photographer, videographer, photobooth operator and more.

This was an incredibly complex, large wedding, but it was very rewarding to see it all come together.

This note from the bride's father and stepmom makes all the work worthwhile:

Melissa and Danny were married on Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel with the receptionf following at the Event Center at Church Ranch.

Despite the heat, it was a beautiful day. Melissa and her mom Linda worked very hard to make
all the centerpieces and decorative touches. Lori with Statice Floral provided the fresh flowers and catering was provided by Heart's Desire. A Fun DJ provided the tunes. Krista Cooley photographed the wedding and Janet with DV Fresh was the videographer.

Patricia and Thomas were married Saturday in a beautiful ceremony at Monet's Place at Hudson Gardens, with a reception following in the Welcome Garden tent.

The bride and groom hired two rickshaw drives from Colorado Rickshaw to transport guests to and from the ceremony site.

Catering by Design provided the food, flowers were from Swank Stems, tent decor was provided by Decor 'N More and the wonderful latin jazz music was provide by the Ricardo Pena band. The dance floor was packed all night!

Yesterday we attended a tasting and final logistics meeting for Alissa and Jason's wedding at the Westin Tabor Center. The banquet manager, Deseri Martinez, and her staff put together a wonderful tasting, and it was so hard to choose!

Veronica from a Boulder Affair brought by several different linen and chair cover options so Alissa and Jason could choose their favorite style.

The final entree choice: Grilled Filet Mignon served with Truffle Bordelaise Sauce. Accompanied by Roasted Elephant Garlic Mashed Potatoes and finished with Tobacco Onions.

It's going to be a wonderful wedding!

This afternoon we finished the invitations for Holly and Dan's wedding.

Holly had a very specific idea in mind for what she wanted for the invitations. She wasn't able to find anything in stores or online that matched her vision, so she asked us to create them for her. Using her idea, we put together several different options, and this is the layout she selected.

Once the design came back from the print shop, they took forever to assemble! We are very pleased with the way they turned out, and they will really set the stage for Holly and Dan's rustic mountain wedding.

Liz and Greig were married on Saturday in an intimate home wedding.

Cachet Weddings and Events provided full-service planning for this event. Using the bride's dress and their beautiful garden as an inspiration, we created a lovely celebration with a woodland garden theme using potted herbs, river rock, slate, and natural materials and textures. Cachet provided all decor from our prop inventory. Biscuits and Berries catered the Colorado-inspired feast, and the Jimmy West trio provided the music. A judge friend of the bride and groom performed the ceremony, and another close friend baked the cakes.

It was a wonderful evening, and the guests had so much fun we had to ask the band to stay for an extra hour! Congratulations to Liz and Greig! It was an honor to be a part of your day.

Weddings at Home

We recently attended a final walk-through with the caterer for Liz and Greig’s at-home wedding with Andrea, our wonderful catering contact at Biscuits and Berries catering. It’s going to be a great event, and we’ll be sure to post pictures when it’s over.

Having your wedding at a private home can be wonderful and intimate. But it also will require some additional planning to work with logistical issues. Before deciding to host your event at home, make sure you consider the following:

Space. Do you have room for a ceremony, guest seating, buffet tables, bar, dance floor and band/DJ?

Local ordinances and sound regulations. Make sure to find out if you will need a special permit to host a large event at home. Is there a sound curfew in your neighborhood? You don’t want the police showing up at your event. Be sure you notify your neighbors well in advance.

Parking. Where will guests park? Do you need to provide a parking valet? Consider seeking permission from a local church or school to allow guests to park in their lot, then offer a shuttle service between your home and the lot.

Liability and security. Speak with your homeowner’s insurance agent to see if you need to add a special home event rider to your insurance plan. While you trust your guests, you will also have catering staff and other strangers in your home. Be sure to lock away any special valuables.

Guest access. Lock bedrooms and rooms that you want your guests to avoid. Hang directional signs to help guests find the restroom. Consider the traffic pattern and traffic flow, and remove and store any furniture that might impede guest movement.

Rentals. You will need to consider the cost of renting tents, tables, chairs, linens, glassware, silverware, flatware, dance floor, etc. If you rent a tent, will you need special lighting, flooring, or heating/cooling?

Catering. Where will your caterer work? Your kitchen will most likely not be big enough for the caterer to work from, and you don’t want the dirty dishes to pile up in view of your guests. Is your garage large enough to serve as a staging station? Does it have easy access to your event area? Will your caterer need to bring in ovens and refrigerators? Are there sufficient electrical outlets? Do you have enough garbage and recycling bins?

Restrooms: If you have having under 50 guests, 2 restrooms are sufficient. If you have more guests than that, you will probably need to rent portable restrooms. Do you have space for portapotties well away from the center of the festivities? Is there adequate lighting for guests to make their way to and from the portapotties? You should also rent a hand-washing station.

Pets. If you have a pet, consider taking it to a kennel for the event. Pets are easily stressed out by large crowds in their territory, and guests may be allergic.

Cleaning. Considering hiring a cleaning service to come both before and after the event, so you don’t need to worry about cleaning the day before the wedding or cleaning up the mess afterwards.

Back-up plan. What happens if it is raining or too hot to be outside. What is your plan B?

With advanced planning, you can make an at-home wedding a wonderful experience!

Keystone Site Visit

Last Saturday we went to Keystone with our clients Holly and Dan to meet with vendors.
Check out what met us--SNOW! IN MAY!!

Despite the weather, we had a fun day. Our first stop was a cake tasting with the fabulous Ned Archibald, the Executive Pastry Chef at Keystone Resort. Ned certainly knows how to pamper his clients and make them feel special. We tasted several flavors and enjoyed coffee and mimosas while looking through Ned's album of cake designs.

At the end of the tasting, Ned presented us each with a box of chocolate-covered strawberries to take with us.

Full of cake, our next stop was Keystone Ranch to finalize the menu and space layout for the ceremony and reception.

We ended the day with visits to two area florists to discuss floral design ideas. It was a busy day, but we accomplished all that we set out to do!

Postage Increase reminder

On May 12, the U.S. Postal Services will raise the rates for postage. After the 12th, a First-Class Mail stamp will be 42¢.

Make sure that your beautiful invitations don't arrive marked "postage due!" If you plan to send your wedding or event invitations soon, make sure that you have affixed proper postage to both your outer envelope and your response card.

Customers can continue to use the Forever Stamps that they purchased prior to May 12 at 41¢, even after the price change. You can learn more about the increase here.

Choosing a wedding or event photographer can be an overwhelming task, especially given the number of wonderful photographers available.

Here are some basic questions you should ask at your initial appointment:

Will he/she be the actual photographer taking the photos at your wedding?

What style does he/she specialize in?

How long has he/she been shooting weddings?

Does he/she shoot in mostly color, black and white, or both?

Does he/she shoot digital or film? 35mm or medium format?

What type of camera will he/she use, and what type of backup equipment is available in case of a problem?

Does he/she use an assistant? Is there an extra charge for this? What type of
experience does the assistant have?

What happens if he/she is ill or unable to make it to the event?Can other people take photos while he/she is taking photos?

Has he/she worked at your event location before? Should your event last longer than scheduled, will he/she stay? What is the extra charge?

How many photos come in each package?

Is an album included in the package? How many photos will be in the completed album?

If he/she is providing you with a CD of images, what will the resolution be of the images? Does the CD include reprint rights?

Will he/she accept of list from you for specific photos to be taken?

What will he/she wear?

How long after the event will the proofs be ready? How long will it take to receive the completed album?

Martha posted this beautiful centerpiece idea on her website. I love how each bouquet is different, but the whole look feels very cohesive. These would be perfect for an informal mountain or barn wedding. A quick check on ebay showed lots of tea tins for sale.

You could do something similar by collecting tin cans in a variety of sizes and wrapping them in scrapbook paper that matches your event colors. Lovely!

Happy Leap Day!

Here's a piece of little-known trivia. According to Irish tradition, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years, on February 29th.

It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose.

The first documentation of this practice dates back to 1288, when Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in that year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. The fine could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves.

Leap Year tradition spread around the world and evolved to include balls and dances. Some were held in order to allow women to ask men to dance and some were specifically designated for women to propose marriage.

Leap Day and its traditions are often compared to those of Sadie Hawkins Day in the U.S. but while the customs are the same-a day which allows for women to propose marriage-Sadie Hawkins day actually takes place in November.

Erin and Jason

Erin and Jason had family coming to their wedding from all over the country, so they wanted to have an event in the Colorado mountains.

We chose the Charter at Beaver Creek as home base for the weekend. The couple hosted a welcome BBQ, rehearsal brunch, and day-after brunch at The Charter.

The wedding ceremony and reception were held at Beano's Cabin, a beautiful on-mountain venue.

We even had some spikey party-crashers!

Kristin and Jeremy were married in Estes Park, Colorado. The wedding weekend began with a rehearsal dinner at the Mary's Lake Lodge, followed by a dessert reception at the Stanley Hotel.

The ceremony and reception were held at the Historic Crags Lodge in Estes Park. The morning of the wedding dawned foggy and cold, so we moved the ceremony inside. It was a cozy, warm setting for a heartfelt ceremony. After dinner, the guests danced to an eclectic mix of Cajun and klezmer music provided by Denver's Spotlight Band.

Sarah and Cody had a beautiful February wedding in Aspen. The couple are from Louisiana, but had vacationed in Aspen with his family. When deciding on a destination wedding, they knew Aspen would be the perfect location!

Their beautiful candlelit ceremony was held at the Aspen Chapel. An intimate reception followed at the Maroon Bells Lodge. A snowstorm the day before the wedding contributed to the romantic, magical setting.
